Manqud is a research project that explores silk as a representative material of the culture and traditions of Murcia throughout history.

In an initial theoretical approach, an in-depth study of the development of silk in Murcia during the Middle Ages has been conducted. This stage of researching historical archives and tracing oral testimonies is crucial for gaining a close understanding of our cultural heritage and using it as support and inspiration for the subsequent material development of the project.

The practical work focuses on producing textile pieces that explore ancient techniques and adapt them for contemporary use. This analysis is based on five natural pigments used in al-Andalus for dyeing fabrics: saffron, indigo, cochineal, madder, and walnut. Here, color is the thread that connects past and present.
